Salsa on2 is a similar style to Salsa on1 except that the focus is on two main instruments – the Clave and Conga. It’s called ‘On Two’ because the clave starts on the second beat of the basic.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Rico Arus who tied the knot on Saturday, July 24. Such an incredible journey brought them together and their deep love and passion will take them through the rest of this lifetime as one.

This week, I’m actually headed to Talara’s, a rare opportunity for me. Of course, with more than a hundred people on a regular basis, the place is always packed. Obviously others have no problems getting out on a Monday night! Tuesday is Red Maple’s second week opening their doors to the Baltimore Salseros. Cool. On Wednesday, magnificient dancer/instructor Psyon is teaching at Sammy’s. Catch him locally, otherwise, you’d have to drive an hour for his classes. Thursday, Baltimore Salsa Meetup is heating up the floor at Mustang Alleys. On Friday, don’t miss the live band playing in Rockville – Luisito Carrion from Puerto Rico.

We have a new venue starting this week on Wednesdays at Sammy’s Trattoria in downtown Baltimore. Join your meetup hosts for our first salsa night at this location. On Saturday, start with dinner at 7:30 pm followed by lessons at 9:00 pm and open dancing at 9:45 pm with Baltimore Salsa Meetup and SalsaNow at Azul 17 in Columbia. What a great place for Baltimore and DC to meet halfway. Have you checked out the lineup for the March 27 Baltimore Salsa Fest? Instructors and performance teams are traveling from DC, VA, and NJ to bring you a different salsa flavor to help you enhance your current repotoire. If you already know LA Style Salsa, challenge yourself to learn Mambo. If you have the combinations memorized, but need to add a little sizzle, take the footwork or body isolations class. If you want to dance in a circle while laughing and passing partners around, sign up for Rueda. For something completely different, experience Timba-Fusion.

Cheers to the new you in 2010. Even if you don’t have a gym membership, the Baltimore instructors and promoters are bringing you lots of fun exercise opportunities in the form of workshops, bootcamps, dance teams, cardio classes, and festivals. Those are in addition to the regularly scheduled weekly classes and parties. Go ahead and immerse yourself. By summer, you’ll have taken your dancing to a higher level and reshaped your body. Sounds like a plan to me! If you haven’t figured this out already, Salsa is an extraordinary journey to a healthier lifestyle. You may even notice your list of friends on popular social networks growing larger and larger as you meet new people in the dance community. Did you survive the Baltimore Blizzard 2009? You were hoping they’d announce a snow emergency for Monday so you could stay home and recover from all that shoveling, didn’t you? Since they didn’t and you’ve been stuck in the house all weekend, go to Talara’s on Monday night for your Salsa fix. On Wednesday, join the crowd at Red Maple to celebrate Sassy Debbi’s birthday. By Saturday, when you are experiencing cabin fever again, pack the house at the Salsa Jam holiday party (postponed from December 19). With all that spare time this week, make a decision about where to dance on New Year’s Eve and invite all your friends. Latin Palace is a local option. If I had to choose between SalsaNow’s most recent venues, Mustang Alley’s wins hands down and I can’t wait to go back. Did you feel like a stuffed turkey last week? Some of us went to La Palapa’s to work it off with some much needed Salsa dancing. The crowd kept pouring in until there wasn’t even a place to stand. What’s new this week? The most exciting event is Sean’s Triple Step Trio classes at Zen West on Saturday. WC Swing, cha-cha, and Salsa are being offered in the afternoon. Make your way to the 13th Floor in the evening. That’s it. Have a great week.
