Did you survive the Baltimore Blizzard 2009? You were hoping they’d announce a snow emergency for Monday so you could stay home and recover from all that shoveling, didn’t you? Since they didn’t and you’ve been stuck in the house all weekend, go to Talara’s on Monday night for your Salsa fix. On Wednesday, join the crowd at Red Maple to celebrate Sassy Debbi’s birthday. By Saturday, when you are experiencing cabin fever again, pack the house at the Salsa Jam holiday party (postponed from December 19). With all that spare time this week, make a decision about where to dance on New Year’s Eve and invite all your friends. Latin Palace is a local option. The Salsa Room in Arlington is a bit further away.

If I had to choose between SalsaNow’s most recent venues, Mustang Alley’s wins hands down and I can’t wait to go back. Did you feel like a stuffed turkey last week? Some of us went to La Palapa’s to work it off with some much needed Salsa dancing. The crowd kept pouring in until there wasn’t even a place to stand. What’s new this week? The most exciting event is Sean’s Triple Step Trio classes at Zen West on Saturday. WC Swing, cha-cha, and Salsa are being offered in the afternoon. Make your way to the 13th Floor in the evening. That’s it. Have a great week.

Happy Thanksgiving! Great memories were made this past weekend at Sean’s birthday bash at Zen West, the annual Puerto Rican Gala, and Mustang Alley’s. What’s new this week? We have one more official Baltimore Salsa Meetup event for 2009 this following Saturday, after that, the organizers are taking a holiday hiatus for a month. We’ll continue to list Salsa nights on the meetup calendar and I’ll continue to send out the weekly blog. Before we take that much needed rest, we invite you to join us for a Meet & Greet this Saturday. This is an important opportunity to represent the Baltimore salsa scene and test drive a potential new venue with SalsaNow. Join us at 8 PM at Wow Cafe for a special Meet & Greet followed at 9 PM by a beginner level salsa lesson. If you’re up for a road trip then on Wednesday, The Salsa Room in Arlington, VA is having their annual Food Drive and Salsa Party with La Tremenda band. DC Salsa Meetup will hold it’s pre-Thanksgiving party there and many of us from Baltimore are joining them for a good cause. Before you ask, I don’t know of any venues open on Thanksgiving Day – Call first.

Oct 5-11 Salsa Venues

What’s new this week? Since my birthday is Friday, my goal is to make it out dancing the entire weekend beginning with La Palapa on Thursday. Have you been there lately? No more sticky carpets on the perimeter of the dance floor. Out with the carpet and in with the wood! That’s in addition to the recent removal of the stage. Now there is plenty of space to dance. On Friday, we have a meetup at the monthly Salsa Block Party with guest instructors Mike Fok and Niss Albaig with SalsaNow. On Saturday, I’m hanging out with a few friends enjoying some wine with my Salsa. Maybe I’ll finish up the weekend at Cancun Cantina. There should be a decent crowd with Monday being a holiday. If you’d prefer to be surrounded by excellent salsa dancers, we have a meetup at Dickeyville studio starting at 5pm on Sunday with DJ Jesus and the DanceInTime instructors. On the downside, I want to report that Friday nights at Umbertos is gone. Unfortunately, the venue failed to support us and Jeri had to cancel.
